“We used the Christian Leadership Lessons with the Student Council in a homeschool co-op setting and it was awesome! I highly recommend this resource!

Is 4th grade too young to begin teaching kids about leadership?

NO!

3 Distinctives that make this curriculum indispensable for Christian leadership development:

1. Gospel Connection - Every lesson connects to the Gospel, the Good News of what Jesus has done for students who put their faith in Him
2. Personal Leadership - The curriculum begins with a lesson on the important concept of Personal Leadership (leading yourself before leading others)
3. Identity in Christ - The entire second unit is a study of Christian identity, which is the root of strong Christ-centered leadership

These lessons were created for younger students (grades 4-6), however they have proven beneficial for middle school students (grades 7-8). You may decide to use only Unit 1 (Choice) for younger students and only Unit 2 (Identity) for older students. The lessons stand alone, so you may pick and choose which lesson(s) your students need. You know your students best, so please adapt the curriculum for your particular needs.

Introduction to Personal Leadership

Unit One: The Power & Privilege of CHOICE

  • Your Attitude Is Your Choice
  • Choose to Trust God's Choices
  • Choose We Over Me
  • Choose to Connect (Not Just Communicate)

Unit Two: Identity of a Christian Leader

  • Satan's 4 Big Lies to Students
  • Gospel Freedom from the Fear of Failure
  • Gospel Freedom from the Fear of Rejection
  • Gospel Freedom from the Fear of Punishment
  • Gospel Freedom from the Fear of Shame

The advantage of beginning leadership instruction in grades 4-6 is the open hearts of pre-teens.

Many of them are willing to gather with a group of friends for an alternative learning experience.

Elementary-aged students may also enjoy more flexibility in their schedules than students in middle and high school.

Brenda Jung

Hey there! I'm Brenda Jung. I mentor middle and high school students so that they will find & fulfill their life's mission by learning to lead themselves well before leading others?

This is Personal Leadership Development (character first!)

What if students could cultivate the ability to value and enjoy the process of PERSONAL LEADERSHIP GROWTH in elementary school?

They CAN!

Pre-teens who understand the Gospel will live out of biblical truth:

In Christ, you are complete. Loved. Accepted. Forgiven. Forever.

Students who are FREED BY THE GOSPEL will value their identity in Christ.

They are free to detach their identity from their successes & failures.

They enjoy learning, trying things, taking healthy risks, stepping out in faith, trusting God while doing their best...

Students who identify with Christ's performance more than theirs are going to do WELL in life.

Christian self-leadership development is the most effective way students can find & fulfill their God-given mission at every stage of life.

Success is growing, serving, and glorifying God by doing the most with what He gives to you, every single day.

I am committed to equipping teens with biblical Truth and critical personal leadership values, skills, habits, mindsets, and practices before they leave for college, by beginning with rooting their sense of self-worth in Christ's performance for them--not in their own successes and failures.

When pre-teens understand that they don't need to earn their self-worth, they are freed to lead themselves with confidence, courage, self-control, and resilience.

Their mindset shifts from fear to faith, from timidity to bravery, from getting to giving, from desiring short-term goals to desiring long-term, transformative growth.

One of the best decisions you can make to give your pre-teens a strong leadership identity is to introduce important, life-shaping ideas while their hearts are wide open and impressionable. They will continue to grow in personal leadership through middle school, high school, college, career, and beyond!

This year is full of opportunities for your pre-teens to grow in personal leadership. Will they take them? I'd love to encourage them! I hope you'll invest in developing your pre-teens' leadership potential this year. I look forward to the possibility of partnering with you in your student's growth for the glory of God!
