Why isn't this taught in school?

The practice of Personal Leadership--Learning to LEAD YOURSELF before leading others.

 Students are asking:

  • "Who am I meant to be?"

  • "What am I meant to do with my life?"

Students are seeking significance. Purpose. Clarity. Direction. Focus. IDENTITY.

Every year, Mastermind students in the Well-Led Life Leadership Program aim to gain a Christian mind.

What is a Christian mind? It's a better understanding of their identity in Christ that FREES them to stop trying to EARN self-worth (inborn significance), and instead RECEIVE their self-worth from God.

The Well-Led Life Leadership Mastermind teaches pre-teens & teens to handle their social, emotional & academic pressures by rooting their self-worth, significance, and security in biblical Truth--not in lies from culture that preach performance and praise from people.

Leaders in our Mastermind will do the most important work of personal leadership--laying a rock solid foundation on Jesus, not on their shifting selves.

Your teen can lead him/herself well.

THIS. School. Year.

HOW?

HOW?

What does practicing personal leadership look like?

  1. Personal Leadership is simply the act of leading yourself
  2. Accepts radical responsibility for his/her character & life--even in tough circumstances, trusting that God works everything together for the good of His children
  3. Exercises self-awareness in the major areas of life: Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Relational & Spiritual
  4. Practices leadership skills of goal-setting & habit-building to understand the process of personal growth
  5. Makes wise, God-glorifying decisions-- in how they choose to use their time, mind, energy, abilities, and resources

Personal leadership development (learning to lead yourself) is the most important investment middle & high school students can make to find & fulfill their life's mission.

Commitment to the process of personal leadership development will teach you to:

Take radical responsibility for who you're becoming (your personal character)

DRIVE your life--not drift through it

LEAD a Gospel-centered life

Set & achieve your semester goals to become the person you want to be

Build habits by taking consistent action to achieve your goals

Enjoy freedom to take healthy risks by rooting your self-worth in Christ's performance for you--not in your performance

Strengthen your self-confidence by taking healthy risks out of your comfort zone

Sharpen your self-awareness with self-assessment tools & coaching questions

Gain clarity about next steps for God's calling & personal mission for your life

Receive validation, empathy, and encouragement from a like-minded Christian leadership community

The Well-Led Life Leadership Program is the only Christian leadership program for students that:

  • Focuses on PERSONAL (self-) leadership instead of leadership tasks (public speaking, event planning, raising funds, etc), because we believe the tasks of leadership are secondary to developing the core character qualities of an effective Christian leader. When the leader grows, so does his/her capacity to learn leadership skills.
  • Begins with objective, biblical beliefs about Truth, since the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the firm, rock-solid foundation on which a secure life should be built; all other foundations are shifting sand (Matthew 7:24-25)
  • Roots leadership in personal IDENTITY, because everything in a leader's life flows from his/her beliefs about who he/she is. Identity is the root of desire, which will express itself in thoughts, emotions, actions, daily habits... These become the experience of daily life.

Through the Well-Led Life Leadership Program, your teen will receive:

  • Group instruction about biblical Truth, Christian leadership principles, values & CHARACTER
  • Group discussion: Students share ideas about the leadership principles presented during the instruction session
  • Practice in self-awareness of who they are becoming--by self-identifying areas of strength & weakness in personal character (using the Wheel of Life and other visual tools)
  • Practice in setting goals and building habits to USE & APPLY the leadership principles in daily life
  • Time to set their intentions for the new school week
  • Support from a Christian leadership community that is committed to personal GROWTH

"Our daughter is beginning to understand why Christians can withstand rejection, loss, and criticism.

We are so thankful for the opportunity for small group Christian mentorship for our daughter. This Mastermind has equipped her with the language to describe some of the issues facing Christian leadership. We look forward to more learning with Brenda, where she can hone in on these important truths!"

-Sarah, Parent of 7th Grader

"Our son is now empowered to take healthy risks and to not allow fear of failure to rule.

If you are hesitant to add one more thing to your child's list of activities, please know that we understand your uncertainty! Nevertheless, we believe in the importance of personal leadership development. The two hours per month will be time well-invested, and your child will reap the benefits beyond the 8-month program."

-Parents of 8th Grader

"Being exposed to different areas of leadership will only help your student become a better person.

We always stress to our son, 'You have to put in the work to see the results.' The Mastermind helped him make more mindful choices at home when it came to using his time. He also made the commitment to become more involved at our church by participating in several of the youth group meetings. Praise God!"

-Parents of 7th Grader

What is a MASTERMIND?

A Mastermind is a group of students who gather CONSISTENTLY with the INTENTION of growing in personal leadership by compounding their knowledge, experiences, opinions, and ideas. Through discussing leadership texts, participating in guided activities, and applying specific leadership principles by setting goals regularly, students develop Christian leadership mindsets and values, which transform them into responsible, confident, courageous, resilient leaders who are mentally & spiritually prepared to fulfill their God-given mission in life.

What makes the Well-Led Life Mastermind different from other leadership programs for teens?

The Well-Led Life Leadership Mastermind is a transformative, Gospel-centered personal leadership program designed specifically for teens in grades 7-12.

It's not just a short-term leadership camp filled with a week of fun and guest speakers (though we love fun and guest speakers!); it's a 3-year journey that requires commitment in order to become Christ-centered, confident, resilient leaders who are equipped to fulfill their God-given mission in life. (Students may begin the program in Year One, Two, or Three.)

What sets this Mastermind apart is our theology & philosophy of leadership development: We do not begin with developing leadership skills; we begin with developing a strong Christian identity & character that is rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our approach emphasizes the fusion of faith and leadership, because we believe Pastor Tim Keller was right: "The Gospel changes everything"--including the kind of leader you become.

This school year, your teen can cultivate a well-led life.

Go from...

To...

Seeing leadership as POSITIONAL - a position with external tasks to complete

Seeing leadership as PERSONAL - internal personal character qualities to develop--godly, growth-oriented, focused, confident, servant-hearted, service-minded, committed, responsible, resilient, faithful, teachable, self-disciplined, problem-solver

Missing opportunities to grow and gain new experiences & relationships because of self-consciousness, fear of failure, and fear of judgment

Accepting challenges outside of the Comfort Zone as opportunities for growth & learning, and living by faith

Passively spending all your time working IN your life (getting through the day) in survival mode

Proactively investing time regularly to work ON your life--stewarding your energy to consider your future with vision, intention, and purpose

Feeling stressed, overwhelmed & uncertain about your identity, purpose, and future

Feeling peaceful, hopeful & excited about gradually discovering your personal God-given mission--who you want to become and how you want to contribute to your world

If you & your teen are ready to replace insecurity, worry, and stress with Christ-centered identity, faith & confidence...

The Well-Led Life Mastermind was created for you.

I learned so much like setting goals and actually thinking about what I want to do in life ---> my personal mission.

The Youth Leadership Mastermind has been an experience that I have never been through, and I am so grateful for it and Ms. Brenda!

I have gained a desire to lead myself even better in the future. I have also definitely been more self-aware of my strengths AND weaknesses, which encourages me and builds myself up into a better person.

-Noel, 9th Grader

This year, I've been able to notice when there is a need to step up, and I've stepped up more recently.

I have also changed my word choice a lot to make myself easily understandable while still being open to ideas.

My confidence in myself is still about the same, although my moments of high confidence are more frequent now.

I've reflected a lot on my actions recently and really thought through decisions.

-Ryan, 8th Grader

I have come to the realization that leading takes discipline. Leading is setting a good example for others to learn, as well as accepting the fact that even the best leaders can make mistakes form time to time.

I am definitely going to be working on myself to have the willingness to work toward my goals, now and in the future.

-Madi, 9th Grader

I've definitely noticed an attitude change in me. I'm more laid back because I don't care about other people’s opinions about me as much as I used to.

It’s a big improvement from last year and the years before that…

I have gained more confidence in who I am. I do enjoy thinking about my future, though sometimes it kind of scares me.

Thank you, Ms. Brenda, for being so supportive, and showing me how to lead myself and other people better!!

-Lauren, 9th Grader

I was made more aware about myself and how I can use my certain skills and abilities to help others.

The Mastermind has helped me learn more about goal-setting and how to lead myself well. I have learned a lot from this Mastermind.

Thank you for teaching us how to lead ourselves well.

-Zoe, 7th Grader

In the Mastermind, I learned how to set a goal and build good habits.

I value leadership more now. I also value failure more and understand how to grow from it. Thank you so much!

-Elliot, 9th Grader

Brenda Jung

Hi! My name is Brenda Jung.

You're invested in your teen's success in every stage of life, and I'm here to guide your teen alongside you.

Abraham Lincoln said, "If I had 6 hours to cut down a tree, I'd spend the first 4 hours sharpening the saw."

One of the best ways you can help your teen to prepare for life is by giving him or her consistent opportunities to "sharpen the saw" by developing Christian leadership character in this leadership mastermind program--the only one that exists for teens.

Everything teens (and we!) want is going to require strong personal leadership to get it.

Strong self-leadership begins with a strong sense of identity (who you believe you are). As Christians, true, secure, significant identity is found in Jesus Christ's perfect, finished performance FOR us--not in our own performance.

In the Well-Led Life Leadership Mastermind, students practice self-leadership on a regular basis, resulting in growth in leadership character over time. They learn principles, discuss them with peers, apply them using goals, and consistently set their intentions to lead themselves well.

Why is it important for your teen to learn to lead himself/herself well? Because God has a MISSION for them to fulfill here on earth. Their life's purpose begins to reveal itself in middle & high school. Teens thrive when they live ON MISSION, with a sense of PURPOSE. Discovering their personal mission and becoming the person who can fulfill their mission is why your teen needs to learn HOW to be the BEST leader of himself/herself.

How will your teen prepare to join God in HIS mission by becoming a mission-driven leader THIS SCHOOL YEAR? There's only one way to find out! Join us!

"In one year, my son has been transformed.

He is so blessed to join Brenda's Leadership Mastermind program. He has started to gain gospel-centered confidence, resilience and a glowing desire for personal growth, just like the program is aiming to achieve in these young people."

-Parent of 7th Grader

"This Mastermind is definitely planting seeds for future Christian leaders."

-Parent of 9th Grader

This program is great for your teen if...

  • Your teen wants to develop his/her ability to lead his own life with strong leadership CHARACTER
  • Your teen needs to understand & receive his/her identity in Christ
  • Your teen aims to make intentional choices for personal growth, but feels stuck in unproductive habits.
  • Your teen aims to make the most of the school year, but lacks accountability, community, and opportunity to practice personal leadership skills (such as self-reflection & goal-setting) to overcome challenges and seize opportunities.

If your teen resonates with these goals, the Well-Led Life Mastermind can be the place that empowers them to learn how to lead themselves well--physically, socially, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually--so that they will be equipped to lead others well.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INVESTMENT MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS CAN MAKE TO FIND AND FULFILL THEIR LIFE'S MISSION.
